A two-year-old Tasmanian boy has etched his name into the record books after hitting a 110 metre golf drive — the longest ever recorded by a child his age. Emmett Perry achieved the remarkable feat at Tasmania's prestigious Barnbougle course, in a moment his family will not soon forget.

The drive surpassed the previous world record for a two-year-old, which stood at 108 metres. To ensure the achievement was watertight, the distance was measured using a laser rangefinder and the entire attempt was filmed continuously for accuracy.

A Natural From the Very Beginning

According to his mother, Emmett's passion for golf first emerged at just 18 months of age, when it became apparent he had an instinctive feel for the sport. His parents subsequently enrolled him in golf lessons at Launceston's WillFit golf centre, where his talent quickly caught the attention of his coach.

Golf coach Brendon Hill says he knew immediately that Emmett was no ordinary student.

"From the very first couple of swings that we saw about 12 months ago, that really showed, oh, this kid has something special," Hill said. "Very natural ability, very athletic and also a lot of coordination for someone that age."

It is the kind of story that adds to a growing list of remarkable Australian record-breaking achievements capturing the nation's attention.

Already Eyeing the Next Record

Emmett's record-breaking run shows no sign of slowing. When the young golfer returned to training, he promptly eclipsed his own newly set mark — launching a drive of 119 metres, a distance extraordinary for any child, let alone one still two years old.

With that benchmark now firmly in his sights, Emmett's next official goal is to claim the world record for the longest drive by a three-year-old — a title he will become eligible to challenge at his next birthday.
