A young man has been struck by a car on a busy Perth road after wandering onto the median strip and into the path of oncoming traffic, sparking an emergency response in the suburb of Doubleview on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred just before 8am on Huntriss Road in Doubleview, when the man, aged in his 20s, stepped from the median strip into moving traffic. Security camera footage captured a near miss with one vehicle before the pedestrian was struck by another, sending him to the ground.
Bystanders Rush to Help Stricken Pedestrian
Passing motorists stopped at the scene and members of the public rushed to assist the man as he lay on the road. Emergency services were called and police subsequently blocked off a stretch of Huntriss Road while the incident was managed.
The man was transported to Royal Perth Hospital, where he received treatment in the emergency department. His condition has not been formally detailed beyond initial emergency treatment.
Local Traffic Disrupted Following Doubleview Crash
The road closure caused significant flow-on effects for local residents during the morning commute. One Doubleview local described being caught up in heavy traffic spilling into surrounding streets as a result of the blockage.
"It was really bad traffic in the back streets trying to get home," she said. "We saw police cars but we didn't know what had happened."
The circumstances that led the man to be walking on the median strip of the busy road remain unclear. Police attended the scene and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
