A provisional licence holder has allegedly been caught drink driving while carrying seven passengers in a ute, in what authorities would consider a serious breach of road safety rules.

The incident raises significant concerns around the dangers of drink driving, as well as the risks posed to multiple passengers travelling in a vehicle not designed to carry so many occupants.

Provisional drivers in Australia are subject to a zero blood alcohol limit, meaning any detectable amount of alcohol in their system while behind the wheel constitutes an offence. Carrying excess passengers compounds the potential danger in the event of a crash.

It is understood the alleged incident is being treated seriously by authorities. The matter is expected to be dealt with through the appropriate legal channels.
