Authorities received reports of a body in the river near River Road, Barooga — approximately 266 kilometres north-east of Melbourne — shortly after 8:15am. State Emergency Service crews attended alongside NSW Police, and the man's body was recovered from the water roughly two hours after the initial call.

NSW Police have established a crime scene at the location and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death. The man has not yet been formally identified, and police have confirmed that a report will be prepared for the coroner.
