Former Married at First Sight contestant Bec Zacharia has confirmed she underwent rib repositioning surgery at a Balinese clinic, documenting the entire experience for her 100,000 Instagram followers — and revealing she was one of ten influencers invited to Bali specifically for the controversial procedure.

The 35-year-old, who appeared on the 2026 season of MAFS, shared the update on Tuesday night, weeks after first hinting at the trip and then publicly wavering on whether she would go through with it.

From hesitation to operating theatre

The announcement came as a surprise to many followers, given that just one week earlier Zacharia had appeared on a podcast saying she was stepping back from the decision. "I'm not ready yet, I don't know if I will be ready, I don't know if I'm going to go ahead and get it done," she told the host at the time.

In Tuesday's video, however, she came clean about having already been in Bali for close to three weeks while delays held up the procedure. "I've been lying to you, I haven't had surgery yet — I'm in Bali, it's almost been three weeks," she told her followers. "There are delays in life, one that I can't control, but today is the day… I'm actually going to take you in with me."

The footage showed Zacharia arriving at the clinic, receiving IV fluids from nursing staff, and walking into an operating theatre accompanied by two medical personnel. Post-surgery clips then showed her resting in bed, wearing a medical corset.

"I'm out of surgery, it all went really well… the pain is probably a 3 out of 10 right now. I'm comfortable. The hospital was incredible," she said, adding that she expected to be in the compression garment for the next 12 weeks.

Part of a larger influencer collaboration

Zacharia was not travelling alone. She was among a group of ten influencers — including fellow MAFS participant Awhina Rutene and Bachelor star Monique Morley — who were flown to Bali by a company called Snatched Waist as part of an influencer collaboration, with the clinic covering the cost of the trip.

Morley also went ahead with the surgery on Tuesday, describing it to her Instagram followers as "basically like Invisalign for your teeth." She shared a photo of herself post-procedure in a medical corset.

Rutene, a Western Australian mother of one, was part of the group but ultimately did not go through with the operation, pulling out at the last minute.

Despite the clinic funding the group's travel, Zacharia was clear that no pressure had been applied to participate. "The company that's brought me out here isn't pressuring me saying, 'You've got to get it done.' I have the full ability to make that decision as to whether or not it's something that aligns with me," she said.

What is rib repositioning surgery?

Rib repositioning — also referred to as rib remodelling or rib reshaping — is a cosmetic procedure designed to narrow the waist by fracturing and relocating the lower ribs. The operation is performed under general anaesthetic, with surgeons making two small punctures in the patient's back.

A specialised device known as a piezotome is then used to vibrate and weaken the bone. Once sufficiently weakened, the surgeon applies pressure to fracture the outer layer of the rib before repositioning it to reduce the width of the waist. In Zacharia's case, the procedure involved repositioning four ribs.

Following surgery, patients are required to wear a compression garment for several months as part of their recovery. Zacharia has indicated she intends to keep her followers updated on her results throughout that period.
