It was a fitting end to a high-drama weekend of NRL football that also saw Parramatta stun Manly in western Sydney, the NRLW kick off its season, and the league itself make a cheeky play for the world's most famous newlyweds.

Eels Stun Manly Thanks to Pezet Heroics
Earlier on Sunday, Parramatta produced one of the performances of the round, defeating Manly 23-14 at Western Sydney Stadium in a result that will do their season-defining credentials no harm whatsoever.
Much of the credit belonged to halfback Jonah Pezet, who delivered a commanding display on his return to first-grade football. Pezet crossed for the try that effectively sealed the win and then added a late field goal to put the result beyond doubt.
The match also produced a moment of genuine brilliance from Dylan Walker, whose miracle pass created an earlier Eels four-pointer and had the crowd on its feet. The appeal carries some logic beyond pure publicity. Kelce has fond memories of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, having helped his Kansas City Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII there in 2024. The NRL's Vegas double-header has form as a celebrity drawcard, though not always without incident — the last NFL player to attend the season-opener was reportedly ejected from the venue for allegedly damaging a bathroom.
The league also attracted widespread criticism in 2025 for an ultimately unsuccessful attempt to secure US President Donald Trump as a Vegas attendee.
Next year's Las Vegas fixtures will see the Parramatta Eels face the Gold Coast Titans, while the Melbourne Storm take on the Wests Tigers — with the NRL now apparently holding out hope that Swift and Kelce might add an NRL double-header to their honeymoon itinerary.
