Queensland forward Jeremiah Nanai has been placed under head injury assessment (HIA) protocols after being struck in the face by a ball from New South Wales during play.
The incident raised immediate concern among medical staff, with Nanai taking a direct hit to the head that prompted officials to initiate injury assessment procedures.
HIA protocols exist to assess players for signs of concussion and other head trauma following incidents of this nature. The outcome of any such assessment can determine whether a player is able to continue or must be withdrawn from the field.
Further updates on Nanai's condition are expected as the assessment process is completed.
