Soul and pop legend Diana Ross is returning to Australia for the first time in more than two decades, confirming a headline appearance at Sydney's Centennial Park on March 5, 2027 as part of the Summertime concert series. The show will be her only Australian date and her first local performance since 2006, when she played in both Sydney and Melbourne.
A landmark return for Diana Ross
Ross, now 82, carved out one of the most celebrated careers in popular music, first rising to global fame as the lead singer of The Supremes before launching a massively successful solo career across soul, pop and disco. Her catalogue includes some of the most recognisable songs ever recorded, among them Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I'm Coming Out, Upside Down, Stop! In the Name of Love and Chain Reaction.
Her influence has extended well beyond her own recordings. Artists including Beyonce and Michael Jackson have both publicly acknowledged her impact on their careers. Among her many honours are a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which was presented to her by then-US president Barack Obama in 2016.
The Sydney concert will take place on the eve of the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, adding further significance to what is already shaping up as a landmark event on the city's summer calendar. Ross will headline the Summertime series under the banner of her Freedom in Motion show.
Summertime series lineup: Kings of Leon, Groove Armada and more
Ross's appearance forms part of a broader Summertime series that brings together a diverse mix of international acts. US rock bands The Strokes and Kings of Leon are also on the bill, as is British dance duo Groove Armada, who will perform a DJ set rather than a traditional live show.
Together the lineup spans multiple decades and genres, from the arena rock of Kings of Leon to the dance floor heritage of Groove Armada, with Ross providing the series with its most iconic headline act.
Tickets and how to get them
For fans eager to secure a spot, a pre-sale opens on November 9, with general tickets going on sale from November 11. Given the rarity of a Diana Ross Australian appearance and the strong supporting lineup, demand is expected to be high.
The Centennial Park show represents a rare opportunity to see one of popular music's true living legends perform live in Sydney, more than 20 years after her last visit to the country.
