Financial comparison firm Canstar has unveiled its picks for Australia's best insurance and superannuation brands for 2026, with everyday customers casting votes based on their own real-world experiences across car, health, pet insurance and super.

The results arrive at a time when many major financial brands are struggling to maintain consumer trust, making the customer-driven recognition all the more significant for the winners.

The Insurance Winners: Who Came Out on Top?

Apia took the honours in car insurance, recognised specifically for its easy claims process and quick turnaround times — two factors that matter most when drivers are in a stressful post-accident situation.

In health insurance, Queensland Country Health Fund was voted the standout provider, praised for the comprehensiveness of its cover and the clarity of its policies — qualities that can be difficult to find in a notoriously complex sector.

Pet owners gave their tick of approval to Pet Insurance Australia, which ranked highest for customer service among those insuring their animals.

Roadside assistance produced a three-way result, with Allianz, RACV and NRMA all receiving top honours. Customers rated them on value for money, roadside response and overall cost.

Superannuation: Vanguard Voted Best Value for Money

In the superannuation category, Vanguard was the clear favourite, with thousands of members voting the fund best for value for money, citing its low fees and competitive investment returns.

"We all want to see our super balance grow and I think this award really reflects our members' confidence in Vanguard Super to deliver great returns with low fees," said Vanguard's Renae Smith.

The result underscores growing consumer awareness around superannuation fees, with Australians increasingly scrutinising how much of their retirement savings is being eroded by costs.

Expert Advice: One Award Isn't the Whole Picture

While the awards highlight brands earning strong customer support, Canstar's Sally Tindall urged Australians not to make financial decisions based solely on a single accolade.

"It's really important to be picking a financial product, not just based on one award, but looking at all the different inputs to make sure it's the right fit for your finances," she said.

The awards were compiled from genuine customer experiences, offering consumers a practical starting point when comparing products. Financial experts consistently recommend that Australians review their insurance and superannuation arrangements regularly to ensure their current providers remain competitive and suited to their individual needs.
