A spokesperson for The Lott noted that some players are drawn to outlets with a proven track record, while others take the opposite view — reasoning that lightning is unlikely to strike the same place twice. "It really shows that wins can land anywhere, because it's really the top and the bottom of Australia," the spokesperson said.
Victoria Leads the Nation, But NSW Took Home the Most Money
At the state level, Victoria dominated Division One win counts, recording 138 victories — more than a quarter of the national total. The state also celebrated the single biggest individual lottery win of the financial year, with a man from Altona pocketing an extraordinary $80 million.
Victoria was followed by New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia in terms of total wins. However, despite finishing second on the winners' tally, NSW players collectively took home the largest share of prize money — a combined $452 million, roughly $25 million more than their Victorian counterparts. That outcome was driven by a string of major Oz Lotto and Powerball jackpots that fell to NSW entries during the year.
Across the country as a whole, the figures confirm that hundreds of new millionaires were created over the 12-month period, with nearly 500 Division One entries sharing in the prize pool.

The timing of the data release adds extra anticipation, with a $40 million Powerball jackpot on offer in tonight's draw.
